"Fela Freedom"

Can you believe it?? This is the first time I've REALLY painted in months. The time just keeps passing by so the other night after having the idea in my head for weeks I decided to sit down and paint this picture of Fela Kuti. No doubt that the man was an amazing musician and activist that has impacted me and so many others. He represents freedom because no matter what the consequences he stood firmly on his principles and never backed down. That has to be respected! So Nuff Respect to fela Anikulapo Kuti!

The Yes Lioness Arts Studio Tour

This is where I create my illustration work and painting. I Love working in my studio because although it's small it's just enough space for me to do my work. It feels like my own little corner away from the world. I do my screen printing in another area so I can keep those 2 worlds separate which works much better for me. I Hope you enjoy the tour and the quick watercolor that I filmed for your viewing pleasure :)

Focus..

The ability to focus has always been an issue for me. It's not that I have a problem focusing on things it's more that i may focus too intensely at times and if that is the wrong thing or a minor thing than..it's not good. I find myself all over the place these days trying to get it ALL done, and running from task to task. I am the "to do list" QUEEN! I can't live without one! So i get things done but sometimes it's the order in which they get done which is not..ideal. Anyway, I am determined to keep up THIS blog to keep my painting High on my mental priority list if not my everyday to do list.

Like today, I have a slew of orders to get out but I want to paint! I also need to clean up my house! BIG TIME! So what comes first? Well if your like me, you don't function well in chaos, so cleaning up will have to be first. Then the orders and then hopefully the painting. Here's a painting I did from my "Tribe Woman Focus" series and a little book I illustrated back in '04 titled "Never Finished, Never Done".The irony is clear, isn't it?

Have a Peaceful & Productive One!

Riches...

It's a funny thing about having money. You never seem to have enough, seems people always need more than what they have(myself included). Some say that is materialistic but I don't agree, this is not about things. This is about freedom, the ability to make changes, to manifest your dreams. Back in the day a captive African could buy their freedom, today we can still buy freedom and the freedom of others. Whether that is a comfortable old age for your parents, or a back yard for your children to play in.That is Freedom. Much more important than a coach bag, a tiffany necklace or a $1,000 weave..that is enslavement.

Original Paintings for sale...

Here are a few paintings I did late last year that I have not put on sale on my website. If you would like to purchase one for your home contact me at shop@yeslioness.com.

Top: "African Princess" $150.00. This piece is just one of those that painted itself. It has the feeling of something out anciency and that was something that just happened as I was painting it. It just makes me think of the first times I ever saw pictures of native African Women in a book. They looked so different to me, and other worldly but simply beautiful at the same time.

At Right: "fashion Consciousness" $150.00.
This painting refers to how what we wear, reflects how we think but also that you cannot judge someone strictly by their clothing. I think that sometimes an Afro-centric style can be a mask for a Eurocentric mindset and a Western corporate attire can disguise a pro-black, community minded Black Woman.

At Left: "Heaven & Earth" $120.00 Meaning that under her wrap, is her mind her "heavens" and below her head is her body which makes her and "Earth".

Welcome to My Art World!

This is the Art Goddess 360* Painting Blog! Some people may know me by my company name "Yes Lioness" and primarily for my t-shirts, but really that is only one of the things I create. I have other blogs that get into all the other things realated to my Art, but this blog is different to me. I'm devoting this one totally to my painting! I have a website where I showcase & sell my Art & all the things I do: ( Yes Lioness.Com )
But I really feel that my painting my firstborn child(figuratively speaking)doesn't get the attention that it deserves from me, now that all my other artistic babies have been born(t-shirts,greeting cards, books etc) so to speak. So this is where I will exhibit, discuss and share my artistic process. I hope you enjoy the ride and come back to visit often!

One,
